Plot: Choplifter HD is what modern remakes or reboots should be, adherence to tradition with a whole lot of room for advancement and series progression. As a kid my family would go to a pizza parlor on Friday nights; they had the SEGA-made Choplifter machine, the only one I've ever seen in the wild, and nearly every Friday night I would play the hell out of it. Choplifter was and still is one of my favorite arcade games of all time and this new version, a "spiritual successor" from inXile Entertainment scratches my nostalgia itch for the series while delivering a wholly new and fun experience. Early on in my time with Choplifter HD I was concerned that the game would repeat the classic gameplay of picking up civilians and dropping them off ad nauseum, but my fears were quickly proved misplaced. InXile have put together a game that varies gameplay, objectives and level design so frequently that I was never bored, never on auto-pilot (no pun intended). Just when you think you're about to be a taxi service, the game throws zombie invasion, point defense, incursion and flat out escape levels into the mix. I loved the changes in objectives and always looked forward to what the game was going to have me do next.
